It is clear why John 7:17 was chosen as a scripture mastery scripture. It is essential.

"If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself."

We have the blessing and opportunity to experiment on the word of God. A great description of how this works is found in Alma 32:26-42. The bulk of our lesson was discussing this important blessing. We talked about how it begins with a desire to know and a willingness to live the doctrine with a humble heart. After a while, we are blessed with evidence that a commandment is good and from our Heavenly Father.

The students were given the opportunity to privately identify where their own testimony is lacking and to try an experiment to build it.
